On January 14, 2019, Alex Bendecido, a Mass Media Officer, interviewed KirillBelov, the counselor of the Ministry of Strategic Development in the Decenturion State. They fail to look into themselves on how best they should live. One glaring fact is that many people are not able to realise what their talents and gifts are. They end up trying to live other people’s lives. In short, talents are the natural abilities, skills or aptitudes that we have. Talents are as diverse as our personalities. Talents exist in many forms, in sporting discipline, aesthetics, technical and social. This discussion should help you to identify your own talents.

Our first question is: How can I identify my talent/s? Let me answer this in very easy to understand manner.  It is you who should identify your talents after this article if you have not yet done so. Alternatively, a few persons closer to you can help you identify your own talents. Teachers, counsellors, parents and guardians can easily identify your talents. At times, some talents run in the family, making it very easy for you to notice it. The ability to play a certain game, to act,  paint, write and create things can be easily detected through a person’s lineage. Analysing the accomplishments of your parents, siblings and cousins can easily show you the line you can follow.

In case one has no lead from his/her genealogy, he/she can study his past lifestyle and desires.

1. Analyse your past behaviours, aspirations and activities

Your talents are manifested in the things you love to do. Now reflect on activities you spend most of your time doing. Where you interested in singing, playing soccer, reading books, writing stories or drawing pictures? Make a list of these activities. Studying your early life friends can also help you. What were the qualities you appreciated of your friends and siblings? The activities that you got a lot of pleasure after doing can tell you your potential and talent. How would you judge successful people? Which people’s achievements would you hope to replicate? Answering these questions helps you to understand your talents. I never really understood my talent until I was in my forties. I could have been at another stage if I had understood my talents earlier and focused on it.

2. Understanding your interests

What you desire to do, is a clear indicator of your talents. Now, focus on the things you could do for five or more hours non-stop. There are a lot of activities you do in your life. If you do some activities you tire easily, but if you do others, you may wish to spend your day doing them. You also need to analyse how you feel if others give you compliments when you do certain activities. If you feel gratified after being given a compliment for doing a certain activity, it may point out to your talent. What are the things that you will always do even if people despise you for? What is that which you can feel very proud of accomplishing? The point here is you have to respond to gut feelings to identify your talent or a natural gift.

3. Check the things you can naturally do better than others

A talent is a special ability that is unique to you. Look at the things that you find very easy to do, but your colleagues are struggling at. In most case, you volunteer to teach others. The things that you find yourself being a natural mentor or coach could point to your talents.

4. listen to yourself

As you know, we always talk to ourselves. As you ride a bicycle, drive a car, walk home or work, you always talk to yourself. Of course, we do not want people to listen to us when we talk to ourselves. However, listening to yourself talks could show you your true calling in life. Also ask yourself: What skill or ability do you think God gave you to make a difference in the world?  Think about how you can do things differently to change your community or to change the world. If there was a magical formula to help you achieve something, what would you ask for? What is a particular topic you wish to raise with your friends to the point that they get bored about that? Sometimes when your talk of such things your friends may feel that you are dreaming. What is it that if someone asks your friends about you, the friends would always point out?

The greater number of people still believe that the best way to earn money is through employment. Sadly, I have been one of the people who used to hold that belief. Unfortunately, I discarded that belief after a sad occurrence in my life. I refocused my belief on how best to earn money after I was forced to leave employment in which I had worked for close to fifteen years. The company seemed to willy-nilly choose people to lay off when it was faced by economic hardships. I felt used up. Considering the years and the effort, I expended at the company I was hurt. From that moment on, I never liked working for someone or any company. Thus, I sought an alternative source of money. My first reaction was to form my own company. And yes I did, but unfortunately, I could not succeed in my own business. That is when I decided to go for online business.

 

There are a number of reasons for people to resort to employment as a means of livelihood. One of the reasons is safety. Employed people feel safe and secure as they receive a monthly remuneration.  We were also indoctrinated that being employed is the best option to earn money. Usually, third world type of education has a focus on employment rather than entrepreneurship. This is a sad scenario. When I lost my job, as alluded in the first paragraph, I turned my attention to writing. Writing has always been my interest. Even when I was employed formally, I would take my time writing articles and research papers. Faced with unemployment I refocused myself on my hobby and natural gift- writing. Now, when I look at my current success on writing and the income generated, I question myself why I had opted for employment in the first place. Working on your own, focusing on your talents brings happiness, peace and freedom. Ultimately, I learned the importance of recognising one’s talent and using it to earn a living. By definition, a talent is a special ability, skill or aptitude that a person has. Successful people have recognised their talents and have managed to use them. Those who believe in Jesus Christ have a lot to learn from him about talents. Naturally, according to Christians, the things that Jesus taught were part of the natural laws. In his teachings, Jesus talked about how the servants of a certain master used their talents. One of the servants used his talents well and became successful in life. The other servant failed to use his talents and he failed for good. Although Jesus was talking of talents in the form of the Roman money, his teaching was mainly used to refer to people’s natural talents and gifts. People who use their talents in life succeed and those who do not seem to struggle economically. This is the basis of my belief that people can naturally make a living based on their talents. Our talents seem to be distributed in form of normal distribution, meaning that if we all use them we better our own lives and those of the rest of mankind.

 

Many people have used their talents wisely. Examples of successful people who have used their talents are singers, footballers and actors. The list is long.  I want to use a practical example of how people can monetise their talents at Decenturion.
